Tom Hooper

Our grass-fed beef is from small Dorset and Wiltshire family-run farms. One of these is owned and run by Tom Hooper who is a 17th generation (yes, 17th!) farmer who is passionate about breeding premium, native-bred Red Ruby Devon cattle. The Red Ruby Devon is recognised for producing the very finest beef with great texture, marbling and tenderness on a low input farming system.

The herd at Manor Farm are 100% grass-fed on a natural diet of grass, wildflowers and clovers rich in essential vitamins and minerals totally fertiliser and chemical free.

Slow-grown to reach maturity naturally, Tom’s Red Ruby Devons are beautiful animals producing beautiful beef.

Description

Buy Prime Rib of Beef On The Bone

Our grass fed, dry-aged rib of beef on the bone is sourced from native breed cattle reared on small, family-run Dorset and Wiltshire farms that have been fed purely on lush, natural pastures. Grass-fed beef has a better ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6, is high in antioxidants such as vitamin E and contains higher vitamin and mineral levels. Eating meat from animals that themselves have only eaten a natural diet of grass, wildflowers, clovers and legumes, rich in essential vitamins and minerals and untainted by chemicals and pesticides, makes a whole lot of sense. It’s a healthy choice to make.

Our Red Rubys, Aberdeen Angus and Dexter breeds have been allowed to reach maturity at 30 to 36 months naturally, to produce beef that has outstanding depth of taste and texture with wonderful marbling. To lock in the great flavours you expect from high-end, grass-fed beef, our meat is dry-aged for at least 28 days and prepared using the finest traditions of British craft butchery.

We believe strongly that small-scale farming is better for the farmer, the animal, the local ecology, and for you, producing exceptionally tasting, ethically reared meat that you can trust completely.

Our Farms

At the Dorset Meat Company, we work with 20 small, family-run farms in Dorset and Wiltshire that all work to produce ethically reared, nutritious meat, in a natural growing environment, in harmony with nature. Animals that have been allowed to grow at a natural pace and have not been rushed.

100% Grass Fed

Our ruminant animals enjoy a diet of 100%, pure, natural grass. Which is all they ever eat.

Our local countryside is rich in grassland. “Partly real, partly dream country” is how Thomas Hardy described Dorset. Over 40% of the county is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the steep ridges and chalk valleys lending the landscape a rugged beauty. Dotted around the Blackmore Vale, small farms raise traditional cattle breeds like Herefords, Aberdeen Angus and Ruby Reds. The areas of clay soil are rich in grass, wildflowers, clover and legumes, the principal food source for sheep and cattle for centuries. It is these natural environments, rich in essential vitamins and minerals, that help to support a wide range of wildlife and insects as an essential element of a vibrant, thriving ecology.

Nature in balance.
