Classic Meatballs with Spaghetti

Whilst not being Italian, we do appreciate a proper plate of meatballs, cooked perfectly, with the richest of sauce. Of course, this dish is only as good as it’s two main components, and with Dorset Meat Company Meatballs, you are halfway there, lovingly made with the finest quality grass fed beef.

The other key component is the sauce, one which should be prepared with equal care and love, for a marriage made in heaven. Serve with fresh spaghetti, fresh basil leaves, and a grating of fresh Parmesan.

Ingredients

6 Dorset Meat Company Beef Meatballs (440g)
200g dried spaghetti or 150g fresh

For the sauce;

1tbsp olive or rapeseed oil
2 cloves of garlic, peeled and crushed or grated
1 small red onion, finely chopped
1 small carrot, finely diced or grated
3 bay leaves
400g tin of chopped tomatoes
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2tbsp tomato puree
1tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
1tsp brown or demerara sugar
Sea salt and black pepper to taste

Basil to garnish
Fresh grated parmesan to garnish

Method

Preheat the oven to 190°C.
First, prepare your sauce. Gently sauté the onion and carrot, until soft and golden, but not brown. Add the garlic, and sauté till soft. Add the bay and oregano, and stir.
Add the tomatoes, tomato puree, vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce, and stir. Bring to the boil, then simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring regularly. The sauce should reduce to a lovely smooth consistency. Season to taste.
Place the meatballs in an oven safe dish, and bake in the oven for 15 minutes, until crisp on the outside, but still pink on the inside (45°C with a meat thermometer). Add the sauce over the top, and bake for a further 10 minutes.
While the meatballs bake, Prepare your spaghetti.
Place your cooked spaghetti in bowls, then place the meatballs on top, pouring over the rest of the sauce. Garnish with ripped basil and freshly grated parmesan, and serve!
